In recognition of National Women’s History Month (March), the U.S. Census has just released some interesting statistics on women in the U.S.
Unfortunately, the latest numbers the Census has on women-owned businesses date back to 2002 when there were 6.5 million women-owned businesses generating more than $939 billion in revenue and employing more than 7.1 million people. Most women-owned businesses are small businesses, with only 7,231 having more than 100 employees. California had the highest percentage of women-owned firms – 13 percent followed by New York at 8 percent and Texas at 7 percent.
